<p>A static site is a collection of "just" html files. What makes it static is that it's there on the server as pre-made files. This is different from dynamic web applications, which build their content as the pages themselves are requested based on underlying code.</p>
<p>Static sites can be very useful for rarely-changing content that isn't highly interactive.</p>
