During the Event
Format
The webinar is live for an hour. Please join me 30 minutes before the publicised, "live" time, to check everything is working and make sure we're both comfortable with what we'll be talking about. The meeting invite I send covers the whole time that we'll be talking together.
Remember, this is a live event so please avoid any interruptions during the session. Find somewhere quiet and comfortable to speak where you're unlikely to be disturbed.
I will introduce you, your topic, and then begin the discussion. The intention is to make it a live conversation, and you are free to ask questions and explore. It's not scripted and nor is it a conventional interview. Whilst there isn't a strict format, we work to the following outline with each section being given roughly equal time:
- Introduction
- Introducing the topic, you and your work. Sharing a quote to start us off.
- What the assumption means to you, and to the wider world.
- Ways that the assumption affects individuals, and how we explore that for ourselves.
- Practical application of what we've been talking about, things you might try out and do differently.
You do not have to remember any of this. I will guide you and ask questions along the way.
During the show, those watching live can interact and ask questions by posting comments on the stream. Feel free to bring those into the conversation if you would like, but I will handle them otherwise. Towards the end of the show, I will ask you how you would like people to get in touch with you, work further, etc... This is also the place to share any offer (books, discounts, events, etc…) that are relevant to the audience.
Once the stream is closed to the public we will have the chance for an "off camera" chat to wrap things up.
Technical
- We use Restream to create and manage the video stream. You can join this with a normal webcam and microphone from a desktop computer. We will send you a link to join ahead of our session. This all works in a similar way to Zoom, so don’t worry if you’re not very technical.
- Please make sure you are in a quiet environment and your microphone is clear and loud enough. Sound is the most important aspect of the show to get right. Buying an external microphone is usually a good investment.
- Please consider lighting during the recording. Make sure your face can be seen clearly, appears as you would like, and you are comfortable.
- Use a webcam capable of at least 720p resolution. A built-in webcam on a modern laptop is typically sufficient, but feel free to use something higher quality if you prefer. The recording of both of us will be in 720p.
- Make sure that the internet connection you are using is capable of supporting a stable livestream.
